Camera glasses for inspections: document the job hands-free
Camera glasses let you document an inspection with both hands free: one tap takes a photo, a double tap records video, all from the point of view of what you're looking at. With OQON VISION, photos and video stay on the glasses until you import them to your phone over direct Wi-Fi, never uploaded to any cloud, and capturing works without internet. They support your field record; they don't replace an inspector's judgment or your employer's or client's requirements. OQON VISION is currently sold and shipped in Colombia.
What problem do they solve in an inspection?
If you inspect electrical panels, a job site, equipment, a vehicle or a roof, you know the scene: a flashlight in one hand, a tool or a form in the other, and you need a photo of a finding right now. Pulling out your phone means putting something down, finding the camera, and often losing the angle you had.
Good documentation matters because the photo is what the next person will see. Photo guidelines for inspections agree on the basics: the image should show clearly what you're reporting, be labeled, and be taken in good light. The Wisconsin Department of Transportation, for example, asks in its inspection photo best-practice guidelines that photos be date-stamped, that the location and purpose of each one be noted, and that you avoid shooting into the sun so detail isn't lost.
Camera glasses solve one specific part of that workflow: capture. Your hands stay on the work and the photo comes from where you're looking.
How OQON VISION fits into an inspection
OQON VISION is everyday glasses with Artificial Intelligence for capturing, asking and getting reminders hands-free. On an inspection day they work like this:
- Photo with one tap, video with two: one tap takes a photo; a double tap records video, and another tap stops it. Use it for a single finding (a loose connection, a crack, an equipment tag) or to walk an area on video.
- Voice notes: dictate a note so you remember what each photo was: "second-floor panel, left terminal." Voice notes use the assistant, which needs an OQON account, the OQON app open in the background and internet on your phone.
- Capture works offline: photos and video don't need a connection, which helps in basements, equipment rooms, warehouses or rural areas with weak signal.
- Import when you're ready: media stays on the glasses until you tap Import in the OQON app; then it moves over direct Wi-Fi to your phone. Nothing is uploaded to any cloud, so you decide where it's stored and who gets it.
- Built for the field: IPX5, so it resists sweat and rain (not submersible). Works with Android and iPhone. Clear and dark lenses are included: dark for facades and roofs in full sun, clear for indoors.
- If you wear a prescription: they're prescription compatible; prescription lenses are fitted at partner opticians in Colombia and sold separately.
One honest note: the camera is 8MP and the video is 1080p. That's good for recording context and the general condition of what you see. If your client requires a specific level of detail (macro shots or thermal imaging, for instance), keep using specialized equipment for that.
A simple workflow for documenting an inspection
These are general documentation habits; adapt them to your company's protocol:
- Define required shots before you start. A short list (overview, each critical point, nameplates and labels) saves you a return trip for a missing photo.
- Shoot context first. A wide view of the area, then the detail of the finding. A close-up alone may not show where the problem is.
- Vary angle and distance. Two or three shots of the same spot take seconds and prevent doubts when you write the report.
- Watch the light. Avoid shooting into the sun; with the sun to your side, details read better.
- Leave a voice note per finding. While the photo is fresh, say what it is and where.
- Import and organize the same day. Move the media to your phone, name it with location and purpose, and file it in your job folder.
- Check photos against your report. It's your last chance to catch something you didn't record.
Privacy and consent are part of the job
Work sites usually have people: the client, on-site staff, other technicians. Record only with people's knowledge and, where a site has photo rules (industrial plants, restricted areas, third-party property), get permission first. Avoid framing people or documents unrelated to the inspection.
OQON VISION has an activity LED that lights up whenever the camera is active and cannot be turned off, a clear signal to the people around you that you're capturing. It also includes stickers to cover the camera when you're not using it, for example in areas where photography isn't allowed.
Who is it for?
- Independent technicians and inspectors who already document with their phone and want to do it without putting the tool down.
- Site engineers and architects walking a project and logging progress.
- Maintenance teams documenting before and after an intervention.
- Adjusters and vehicle or equipment assessors photographing general condition.
If your company needs several units, volume pricing starts at 10 units after a 15-minute call, and OQON builds custom apps for each company's use case; scope, timing and cost are defined in the quote. Write to info@oqonlabs.com.

Frequently asked questions
Are camera glasses useful for technical inspections?
They help you capture photos and video hands-free during the walk-through. They don't replace the inspector's judgment or your employer's or client's specific requirements.
How do I move photos from the glasses to my phone?
They stay on the glasses until you tap Import in the OQON app; then they transfer over direct Wi-Fi to your phone. Nothing is uploaded to any cloud.
Do they work without internet?
Photos and video do. The voice assistant (which answers questions and records voice notes) needs an OQON account, the app open in the background and internet on your phone.
Can they handle field work?
